Types of Forging

  • Drop forging: This is forging is useful when you want to form a shape of the die. All you have to do is drop the hammer on the workpiece. We have two types of drop forging namely open-die drop forging and closed-die drop forging.
  • Impression dies forging: This is also known as “close-die forging” wherein the metal is kept inside a die coinciding a mold, which is akin to an anvil. The hammer die is already in shape. When you drop the hammer on the workpiece the metal begins to flow and fills the die cavities. The continuous dropping of the hammer will give you quick shape along with squeezing out all the die cavities which are known as flash.
  • Press-forging: We need to apply a slow and continuous force when working with press forgings. When the dies are in contact with their workpiece, their calculation in amount of time is in seconds.
    Upset forging- This helps in increasing the diameter of the workpiece by stressing its length. This is most commonly used forging.
  • Automatic hot forging- This type of forging helps to feed the mill length steel bars into a hot forging process at room temperature which leads to the production of outputs from the other end. The forging process in this type is so fast that production of 180 parts per minute takes place. The main point of using this forging is that it accepts all low-cost materials with just a little labor to operate the machines.
  • Roll forging- here, the thickness of round or flat bar stock is reduced and the length is increased. Roll forging is done with two cylindrical or semi-cylindrical rolls having one or more shaped grooves. This is done by heating a bar and then inserting it into the rolls. As the rolls hit a spot, the rolls start circulating and the bar gets its shape through rolling into the machine. The plus point here is that it needs no flash.
  • The net shape and near-net shape forging- This is also called precision forging as it helps to minimize cost and waste related before forging operations. Hence, the outputs don’t require much of final finishing through machines. Moreover, you get less scrap and is also money saving as it uses less of materials.
  • Induction and multidirectional forging- Induction forging depend on the type of heating style used. Most of the above forging takes place in contrast with induction method. Multidirectional Forging is useful when you want to create work piece in just one step but with several directions.

Fittingcart Forged Fittings are harmonious to IS: 1239 (Part – II), IS 4712; 1984 and ASME B16.11-2009. Their leakage testing is done at an internal hydraulic pressure of up to 1000 Lbs., 3000 Lbs., & 6000 Lbs. The forms in which Forged fittings are available is in Socket Weld and Screw or Thread forms. All these forged fittings are outcomes of using thread connection IS 554:1985, N.P.T and BSPT thread and as per customer requirements.
